The Attorney General's Office has reported an increase of over 115% in phone and online scams in the last two years. Two trending scams involve a caller who claims to have trouble with her headset, which can make the recipient of a phone call more receptive and accommodating. Fake IRS calls are common this time of year. If a caller claims to be from the IRS and demands immediate payment for a debt, your red flag for a fraud alert should go up! Another new thing to watch out for: Callers may simply try to get you to say "yes" on the phone so that it can be taken out of context. It is as simple as the caller asking, "can you hear me?" A better approach, instead of saying yes, is to say, "who is asking?" Be careful out there, and remember that government agencies are much more likely to send letters. Scammers are going to call and make efforts to exploit your emotions. Keep your guard up! Recent Recoveries
